The new Acura NSX GT3 is set to make its first public appearance at this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge round at Mid-Ohio ahead of its 2017 competitive debut.
Newly confirmed development driver Peter Kox will pilot the all-new NSX GT3 in practice sessions on Thursday and Friday at the 3.62km Mid-Ohio venue.
Acura confirmed earlier this year that the NSX GT3 will be part of a factory race program in North America next season, although the series which it will contest is yet to be announced.
Built in Japan, the twin-turbo V6 powered NSX GT3 was initially developed by Italian squad JAS Motorsport that runs Honda’s World Touring Car Championship program.
The project has since been taken over by Honda Performance Development in America.
“Based on a very successful test program, we’re taking the next logical step in seeing how we stack-up against the competition,” said Art St. Cyr, president of Honda Performance Development.
“Mid-Ohio seemed like the perfect opportunity, given the demands it places on a race car and its proximity to NSX R&D and manufacturing.”
The NSX GT3 is set to complete the FIA’s Balance of Performance testing at Ladoux, France later this year.
