Following recent official approval from CAMS, the 2014 Formula Ford Series will consider drafting in more rounds if there is sufficient competitor demand.
A five-round calendar has been signed off with the categories managers keen to explore expansion.
Four of the five rounds in 2014 will be held in conjunction with the Shannons Nationals meetings.
In a bid to survive, the Formula Ford Association has undergone major restructuring in order to improve the national level’s dwindling numbers.
The revised series, which kicks off at Mallala from April 25-27, will include the long serving 1600cc Kent machines as a second-tier class alongside their successors, the Fiesta-powered cars which were introduced about eight years ago.
“When your focus is on cost containment and boosting participation you need to tap into as many pockets of the racing community as possible,” FFA chairman John Van Leeuwen said.
The outlook of Australia’s open-wheel categories is about to change dramatically following an announcement yesterday by CAMS that the FIA Formula 4 class will commence in Australia from 2015.
