Australian Scott Andrews has capped a successful season in the US F1600 series by winning a scholarship award that will see him tackle the prestigious Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone.
The 24-year-old Victorian has landed the Spectrum International Scholarship Award that will enable him to compete in the Formula Ford event at the British track from October 31-November 1.
With a record-breaking seven wins for the Exclusive Autosport squad (official factory Spectrum team), Andrews has led the F1500 Formula F Championship Series since the opening round in April.
He holds a 100-point lead going into the finale in Pittsburgh next month.
The Walter Hayes Trophy is the premier Formula Ford contest in the world with over 100 entries challenging to break through the qualifying heats and into the 36-car final,
“There’s no doubt in our minds that Scott’s thoroughly deserving of this year’s Spectrum International Scholarship,” Michael Duncalfe, Exclusive Management boss said.
“He’s had to learn every circuit he’s raced at this season but he’s proved himself to be a fast learner and an even faster racer.
“Some of his victories have been hard fought come-from-behind drives while others have been showcase performances from pole.
Andrews will now realise his childhood dream of racing in Europe.
“Since I was a kid growing up in karts I’ve always dreamed of racing in Europe,” Andrews said.
“ Now I’m being given the opportunity to race at one of the largest and arguably the most prestigious Formula Ford race in the world and it’s at Silverstone, which is just amazing.”
