Ash Walsh will return to the Dunlop Super2 grid this year at the team with which he last raced in the series, Matt Stone Racing.
Walsh will pilot one of MSR’s two VF Commodores having last driven for the team in Super2 in 2014.
He finished third that season of the back of a runner-up result the year before, outcomes which team owner Matt Stone is hoping to improve on in 2019.
“Maybe call it unfinished business, we got so close to the prize with second place in 2013,” noted Stone.
“I called up Ash and asked if he felt like another crack at the title, we are glad he said yes.”
Walsh, who will again carry support from long-time backer Infants’ Friend, has spent the last three years as a Pirtek Enduro Cup co-driver at Brad Jones Racing and finished seventh in the 2016 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
The Queenslander has also won the Pro-Am class of the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, in 2018.
His new team-mate will be rookie Joel Heinrich, who took out last year’s Aussie Racing Cars series and will pilot the FGX Falcon which MSR acquired from DJR Team Penske ahead of the 2018 season.
Stone has told Speedcafe.com that he nevertheless intends to also run the squad’s other VF in this year’s Super2 Series, with a driver to be announced shortly.
MSR will test at Queensland Raceway on February 18-19, ahead of Round 1 at the Superloop Adelaide 500 on February 28-March 3.
