Experienced Australian GT driver Steve Wyatt has moved to the top of the Ferrari Asia Pacific Challenge standings after recording a double victory at Sepang.
The Western Australian dominated the penultimate round of the championship as he guided his Ferrari 458 Italia to two wins from pole position to overhaul championship leader Renaldi Hutasoit.
Wyatt led home Hutasoit and Indonesian driver David Tjiptobiantoro in third in both races with his strongest performance arriving in the final race, which saw him take the chequered flag by 11.308s.
Just two points separate Wyatt and Hutasoit heading into the final round of the Ferrari Asia Pacific Challenge at Italy’s Mugello circuit from November 3-5.
Super GT
The Petronas TOMS Lexus RCF of Daisuke Ito and Britain’s James Rossiter came through to take victory in Super GT’s showpiece Suzuka 1000km.
The pair emerged through changeable conditions at the famous Japanese circuit to take the win by almost 90 seconds from the Zent RCF of Yuji Tachikawa and Hiroaki Ishiura.
Championship leaders Joao Paulo de Oliveira and Hironobu Yasuda clinched the final place on the podium in the Calsonic Nissan GT-R, just eight seconds adrift of the Tachikawa/Ishiura Lexus.
Only four cars completed the race on the lead lap with Yokohama shod Juichi Wakisaka/Yuhi Sekiguchi Lexus entry in fourth.
Nissan triumphed in the GT300 class as the Andre Couto/Katsumasa Chiyo/Ryuichiro Tomita GT-R GT3 pipped the Studie BMW Z4 of Jorg Muller and Seiji Ara by 1.098s.
The Subaru BRZ of Takuto Iguchi and Hideki Yamauchi was third while Kiwi Nick Cassidy’s appearance came to a close when the UPGARAGE BANDOH 86 Toyota 86 he was sharing retired after 125 laps.
Super GT heads to Sugo for the sixth round from September 19-20.
