Australian Jake Parsons continued his podium run in the Formula Masters China Series round at the KL City Grand Prix.
The Sydney driver followed championship leader Martin Rump home in Sunday’s first race before coming home in third behind Rump and Absolute Racing’s Dennis Olsen in the weekend’s final contest.
Parsons’ two podiums results came after a retirement in Saturday’s opening race when he hit the wall while occupying second spot.
“It was awesome to get this street circuit experience,” said Parsons.
“You can really feel the speed when you get close to the barriers but most of the time all your attention is on the track.”
Rump’s three race wins has seen him extend his championship lead to 54 points over Parsons.
Fellow Australian Nicholas Rowe secured a third in Race 1 before finishing the weekend by finishing fourth and sixth in the remaining two races.
Compatriot Aidan Reed improved as the weekend progressed claiming 10th spot in the final race.
The Formula Masters China Series heads to China’s Zhuhai Circuit for the penultimate round of the championship from September 18-20.
KL GT City Cup
Japan’s Naoki Yokomizo had the honour of winning the inaugural KL GT City Cup the flagship race of the KL City Grand Prix.
The Direction Racing driver controlled the 40 minute race to take the chequered flag in his GTM Lamborghini Super Trofeo LP620 from local star and former Formula 1 test driver Fairuz Fauzy.
Fauzy, who started from the back of the grid, managed to guide his loaned OD Racing Super Trofeo Lamborghini in second, ahead of Craft Bamboo Racing’s Frank Yu in the squad’s Ford GT.
The field was depleted after Australian Josh Hunt, who had scored pole position in qualifying, was forced to withdraw from the event after his Mercedes SLS GT3 suffered a brake failure.
Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia
Kazuki Hiramine and Anthony Liu/Davide Rizzo shared the spoils in the two Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Series races at the KL City GP.
Hiramine pipped Yuan Bo/Edoardo Liberati by just 0.8s in the category’s opening race on the streets of the Malaysian capital, while Japan’s Toshiyuki Ochiai was 4.8s adrift in third.
Liu and Rizzo held off Ochiai to record victory in Race 2 by 0.913s with the Dilantha Malagamuwa/Armaan Ebrahim entry in third.
Super GT
Michael Krumm and Daiki Sasaki extended Nissan’s run to three consecutive victories with a win in the fourth round of the Super GT series at Fuji Speedway.
The ADVAN Nissan GT-R of Krumm and Sasaki took the victory by 4.7s from the Zent Lexus of Yuji Tachikawa/Hiroaki Ishiura, with the championship leading Calsonic Nissan GT-R of Hironobu Yasuda/J.P.De Oliveira third.
“Since the team haven’t had a win in Super GT since 2010, I’m really happy with this result,” said Krumm.
“Also, the motivation is really high on the Kondo Racing team this year and everyone has been very determined to win a race.
“In order to win, you always need a certain amount of luck, and this time we were able to take advantage of that luck. This win really makes me happy.
“I have gotten older (40) but I still feel young in spirit.
“At the next round, the Suzuka 1000km, it will not be easy because of the handicap weights we will now be carrying, but I hope we can win again at Sugo or Motegi.”
Yasuda and De Oliveira lead the championship standings by four points from #1 Nissan of Tsugio Matsuda and Ronnie Quintarelli.
The Super GT Series heads to Suzuka for the fifth round of the championship on August 30.
