Carrera Cup Asia
New Zealander Will Bamber has won both Carrera Cup Asia races on Thailand’s Bangsaen Street Circuit.
In Saturday’s Round 5 race, Bamber and Chris van der Drift shared the front row, leading to a tense all-Kiwi battle for the lead through much of the race as the former won by less than a quarter of a second.
“It was a fantastic race for us, getting a good start which helped us stay ahead before Turn 2,” said Bamber.
“After that it was about keeping it under control but also pressing on. One mistake and it could have gone wrong really quickly.”
Bamber again led all the way from pole to victory in Sunday’s Round 6 race, this time beating van der Drift to the chequered flag by less than half a second.
Austrian Philip Hamprecht made for an identical podium across the two races.
Bamber now moves onto equal points with championship leader Martin Ragginger, while van der Drift is only two points adrift, moving onto the fourth event in Malaysia on July 21-23.
FRD LMP3 Series
James Winslow and Mathias Beche have won the first ever FRD LMP3 Series feature race at the new Zhejiang International Circuit.
The #95 Craft Bamboo Racing entry led 27 of the 40 laps, including the last one, beating the #18 KCMG Team entry of Tasmanian Josh Burdon and Neric Wei.
Saturday race winners Martin Cao and Garnet Patterson, in the #3 Eurasia Motorsport entry, rounded out the podium.
Greg Taylor might have made it two Australians on the podium, but co-driver Alex Tagliani made an error in the #20 Craft Bamboo car while trying to pass Wei for second in the latter stages, and instead lost a position.
Round 2 takes place in Shanghai on July 30.
TA2 Asia Racing
Steve Owen has taken victory in the new TA2 Asia Racing series’ exhibition race on the streets of Bangsaen.
Owen qualified on pole position on a Mustang and took a lights-to-flag victory as he went unchallenged throughout.
