MARC GT will field its BMW M6 GT3 in the next round of Japan’s popular Super GT series at Thailand’s Chang International Circuit.
The Queensland operation will enter the M6 GT3 in the second tier GT300 class as part of a collaboration with Thai outfit Vattana Motorsport for the October 8-9 event.
Morgan Haber will continue to drive the car, which last raced at the Australian Endurance Championship’s Phillip Island 101 in May.
The Queenslander will team up with Vattana Motorsport driver Chonsawat Asavahame for the 300km race.
The opportunity has arisen through a connection with Japanese brake company Project-Mu and experienced Australian engineer Paul Ceprnich, who assists the Vattana Motorsport squad in the GT-based Thailand Super Series.
MARC GT boss Ryan McLeod says the event is a one-off but is keen to investigate future options in Super GT.
“Vattana Motorsport reached out to us to see what we could do and we looked at it and we both had a similar interest in competing in that series,” McLeod told Speedcafe.com.
“It wasn’t something that we expected to come along but it has so we are going to go and do it.
“At the moment we are just happy to have a look at it (Super GT) for this event.”
Haber is eagerly awaiting the opportunity to race in the renowned Super GT category.
“I’m excited to be racing in the Super GT series – it’s always been a long term goal to race internationally and to get a drive in such a great series is fantastic,” said Haber.
“I’m certainly looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the M6.
“It’s a great car and the Chang International Circuit is an incredible track, so I’m keen to go over and put in some test laps prior to the race.”
The MARC BMW was shipped to Thailand last week ahead of the penultimate round of the Super GT series.
