Elliot Barbour scored his first V8 Ute Racing Series victory on Sunday at Sandown during Round 5 of the 2014 season.
The 24-year-old tasted success in the reverse top 10 grid Race 2.
Starting ninth, the Just Car Insurance Holden driver shadowed pole-sitter Jeremy Gray during the early stages before pouncing at Turn 9 with just over three laps to run.
“I’m pretty comfortable over the top, I like that corner and I thought, I didn’t want to sit here in second so I had a crack and it paid off.,” he said afterward.
“It’s good to get the first win and get the monkey off the back, there has been a bit of pressure to get that win so I think it will be a lot easier now.”
Ryal Harris came home third in Race 2 before cementing the round win with a second victory for the weekend in the finale.
Second in the weekend points score was Kris Walton, who extended his series lead with a sixth and a third from Sunday’s races.
Jesse Dixon meanwhile recorded his first weekend podium after improving a seventh in Race 2 to a second in Race 3.
Walton leads the standings by 39 points over David Sieders heading to Bathurst next month, while Nathan Pretty, Dixon and Harris complete the top five.
