Toni Vilander has produced a blistering lap to claim the inaugural Pirelli Top 10 Shootout for the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.
Vilander put in a clinical lap in searing conditions to record 2:02.86s in the Maranello Motorsport Ferrari 488 and claim the Allan Simonsen Trophy.
The result will be emotional one for the Melbourne team given the late sportscar superstar Simonsen previously drove for the outfit.
Supercars star Chaz Mostert had the provisional pole for a fleeting moment as he charged to a 2:03.05s lap in the MARC Cars BMW M6.
Marco Wittmann will start from the inside of the second row in the BMW Team SRM M6 after a 2:03.24s effort.
The huge surprise was the mega lap put in by Ash Walsh in the Miedecke Stone Aston Martin who will start from fourth after posting a 2:03.82s lap.
Maxime Soulet (Bentley Team M-Sport) shaded the Tekno McLaren by one hundredths of a second to claim fifth.
The #1 Tekno Autosport McLaren of factory driver Alvaro Parente was a late inclusion in the shootout at the expense of the sister #59 Tekno machine which suffered heavy damage from Q1.
Former Le Mans 24 Hours winner Earl Bamber put the #911 Walkinshaw Porsche into seventh ahead of the #7 Team SRM BMW piloted by ex-F1 driver Timo Glock.
Australian rising star Matt Campbell was given the honour of qualifying the Competition Motorsports Porsche in ninth, while Nathan Antunes rounded out the top 10 in the GT Motorsport Audi.
