Chelsea Angelo has had her first taste of a Car of the Future specification Supercar as she continues to work on a return to the Dunlop Series.

The 20-year-old enjoyed eight laps behind the wheel of Tim Blanchard’s Holden Commodore during a ride day at Sydney Motorsport Park on Monday.

Angelo had attended the day with Super Black Racing and Chris Pither, who has been mentoring the former Formula 3 driver this year.

However, an arrangement struck with BJR on the day saw the Victorian jump behind the wheel of the Cooldrive entry.

“It was an incredible experience,” Angelo told Speedcafe.com.

“I have never been in one of the Car of the Future Supercars so just to be in one was great.

“The handling was great even though the tyres were old but it still felt a lot different to what I have been driving.

“The turn-in was definitely a lot better than some of the Dunlop Series cars I have raced before and the braking is a huge difference.

“After I did a few laps I went and saw Brad (Jones) and thanked him for the opportunity. He thought I did really well so it was good feedback from him.”

Angelo’s Dunlop Series campaign aboard a Dragon Motor Racing owned Commodore came to halt before Townsville due to financial constraints.

She is likely to sit out the next round at Sandown (September 16-18) but remains hopeful of a return at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 round (October 6-9).

Keen to make a return at Mount Panorama, Angelo is also working to secure budget for a full Dunlop Series campaign next year.

“Our next round is at Sandown but we are really trying to push for Bathurst as it is such a major event,” added Angelo.

“We want to get to the other rounds this year but Bathurst is our number one priority at the moment and to work on our season for next year.

“Sponsorship and funding is the main thing that is holding me back.

“It is not quite 50/50 at this stage so my main priority is to get out there in the motorsport industry and network with people.

“I don’t know if Bathurst is going to happen but I just need to get out there.”
