Aussie Ryan Briscoe has flagged a potential late season form surge as IndyCar heads to the next round at the Iowa Speedway this weekend.
The Chip Ganassi returnee and one-time Team Penske star, Briscoe is coming off a season high fourth place finish at the Pocono round.
While Briscoe says there have been decent advancements in the #8 NTT Data car, he says a big focus remains on extracting more performance in qualifying.
In an interview with IndyCar.com Briscoe said: “We’re really coming together as a team.”
“I still think we need to work on our qualifying performance; we just not getting the most out of the tires (on road/street courses).
“It’s all about execution and I’m feeling confident we’re getting stronger as the season progresses.”
Briscoe sits ninth in the points on 285, 12 behind his team-mate and defending series champion Scott Dixon with Penske team-mates Will Power and Helio Castroneves locked on 446 points at the head of the standings.
IndyCar’s compressed season has seen a brutal schedule since the signature Indy 500 on May 25.
The series has crammed in races at Detroit (double-header, May 31), Texas (June 7), Houston (double-header, June 28) and Pocono last weekend.
A week after the Iowa race the series moves to another double-race weekend at Toronto (July 19-20) before finishing its season with four races next month, ending with the customary Fontana super speedway on August 30.
