Brown scores breakthrough Toyota 86 victory

Will Brown and Cameron Hill shared the spoils in the final two Toyota 86 Racing Series heats at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Brown became just the second different winner of an Australian Toyota 86 Series race when he passed Hill on the final lap to triumph in Race 3.

Hill had led the opening five laps, most of which were run under the Safety Car after Simon Samoilenko made heavy contact with the concrete wall exiting Turn 5.

Samoilenko had tangled with Garry Holt and spun across the nose of the former Supercars privateer.

The single-lap dash to the chequered flag saw Hill run wide at Turn 1, and he was duly swamped by Brown and David Sieders on the run to Turn 2.

Hill nevertheless claimed round honours again having taken out Race 2 earlier in the day.

Brown won the start and held on until Lap 7 of 12, at which time Hill passed and then Aaron Seton roughed up the Formula 4 championship leader, who was shuffled back to fourth.

Seton closed in on Hill in the latter stages but never seriously threatened the 2015 Australian Formula Ford Series winner.

Brown recovered to third helping him to second for the round ahead of Seton.

Hill continues to lead the championship, which now heads to the Wilson Security Sandown 500 from September 16-18.
