Teenager Matt Campbell has taken three wins from three starts on his Class A debut in the GT3 Cup Challenge at Phillip Island.

Having wrapped up the Class B title last time out at Queensland Raceway, Campbell stepped into a newer specification 911 GT3 Cup for the weekend and proved the pace-setter from the outset.

Following on from victory in Saturday’s Race 1, the 19-year-old led every lap of Sunday’s two races, beating home Jon McCorkindale and Fraser Ross on both occasions.

The top three for the round reflected the Sunday race results, ensuring Ross finished his title winning season with a weekend podium.

Series debutant Brenton Grove proved the man to beat in Class B and finished 12th outright in the two Sunday encounters.

Also in action at the Phillip Island Shannons Nationals event were the Kumho V8s, Kerrick Sports Sedans, Formula 3, Radicals, Sports Racers, Super Six Touring Cars and Superkarts.

Simon Hodge established a 20 point lead over rival Ben Gersekowski in the Formula 3 Australian Drivers’ Championship after winning the day’s feature race.

Hodge took out the 14 lap contest by nine seconds ahead of Gersekowski, who had earlier won the morning’s sprint race and led the opening stages of the final.

Points leader Hodge had managed just fourth in Race 2, taking the flag behind Gersekowski and National Class runners Chelsea Angelo and Ricky Capo.

In the Radical Australia Cup, Tim Berryman made the most of rival Neale Muston’s qualifying crash-induced absence to secure a double victory.

Chris Medland was the only other SR8 runner in the 14 car field, but could manage no better than eighth in the Sunday race.

Gavin Ross and Adam Proctor went unbeaten in the Super 6 Touring Car and Sports Racer encounters respectively, while Gary Pegoraro secured title victory in the Australian Superkart Championship.

The Shannons Nationals will continue at Wakefield Park on October 17-19.
