Australian Formula Ford team the CAMS Rising Stars will switch chassis next year.
The team, run by Minda Motorsports, will switch from the Australian-built Spectrum chassis to the French-built Mygales.
The junior development team is planning on running four Mygales in the national Formula Ford Championship next year, as well as two state series entries.
The national championship Rising Star Mygales will be brand-new chassis, while the state cars will be second-hand models.
Matthew Brabham and Jack Le Brocq are expected to stay on, with two another drivers to join the crew. This year, Liam Sager and Garry Jacobsen have shared a drive in the national series.
The drivers for next year’s CAMS Rising Stars could be confirmed by CAMS as early as next week.
Team principal Bruin Beasley told Speedcafe.com.au that switching chassis was not an easy decision.
“For us, this year was always going to be a learning year, finding our feet with the guys,” he said.
“We knew we’d have to buy new cars at the end of the year, so we went through the process of going through the ins and outs of everything.
“It has been a really hard decision for us because the Borland team, Mike and Paul, have been good to me and have been part of the foundation of where we are at. But there were a lot of factors that we had to look at for our business, and the Mygale chassis was the best move forward.
“Emotionally, I would have liked to have stayed where we were, and fundamentally, there is nothing wrong with the product, but there were some pressures from elsewhere and that’s where we ended up.”
After a learning year, Beasley says he’ll have much higher expectations for next year.
“I think we’d be kidding ourselves if we can’t be competitive next year,” he said.
“That was always our aim. This year we had the soft option of grooming new drivers who were green P-platers who are finding their feet. Next year, they won’t have any excuses. They’re a year in. They’ll be expected to be competitive.”
The final round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship is being held this weekend at Sandown as a support class to the V8 Supercars Championship Series.
