Porsche Carrera Cup Australia will kick off its renewed championship at the 2011 Formula One Qantas Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park in March.
The announcement is the first step to securing Carrera Cup’s calendar for next year, which is set to include mainly showcase events with the V8 Supercars. The official calendar will be announced within a couple of weeks.
Porsche Cars Australia Managing Director Michael Winkler said that he is excited to have Carrera Cup included on the Grand Prix bill.
“We are proud to again be associated with the Formula One Qantas Australian Grand Prix,” said.
“I’m sure the Porsche Carrera Cup will provide terrific racing on the world stage.”
Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation Andrew Westacott said motorsport fans have a lot to look forward to at the 2011 event.
“The Australian Grand Prix Corporation is committed to staging the best quality entertainment both on and off the track,” he said.
“We are very excited to be welcoming Porsche Carrera Cup back to Albert Park as a part of the spectacular on-track entertainment.”
The Porsche Carrera Cup is the second confirmed support category to the Grand Prix, following the news earlier this year that the V8 Supercars Championship Series will contest a non-championship endurance event around the Albert Park street track.
The Australian Grand Prix Corporation is set to announce the complete support race category line-up soon.
