Casey Stoner has set the fastest time at Valencia – the final round of the MotoGP Championship.

The new world champion set the best time of the day in a damp first practice session. While that session was mildy wet, the rain really came down in Practice 2, ensuring there was no chance of beating Stoner’s time.

Second fastest in the first session went to Stoner’s Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa from Ducati’s Valentino Rossi.

Fastest in the second session was Suzuki rider Álvaro Bautista, who topped the rainy session at the Ricardo Tormo circuit ahead of Nicky Hayden and Randy de Puniet.

Stoner finished down in eighth in the second session.
