Castrol will celebrate its own 50 year milestone at Mount Panorama this weekend.
The lubricants brand has been a part of every touring car endurance race at Bathurst, and to celebrate, the company held a special ‘legends’ lunch at Circular Quay in Sydney today.
Former Bathurst 1000 winning combination Larry Perkins and Russell Ingall reunited, celebrating their two wins together (1995 and 1997).
The pair was joined by the exact Castrol Commodore that Perkins and Ingall drove to victory in the 1997 race.
“It was great to see the Castrol Commodore again after so many years and what a wonderful site it was in front of the Opera House this afternoon,” said Perkins.
“Bathurst is a special event each year but it’s even more special with the 50th year celebration this weekend so it was nice to share some memories today at the Castrol legends lunch.”
Also in attendance was Ford Performance Racing’s Mark Winterbottom and two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Steve Richards.
Winterbottom, the only driver at the function yet to win ‘The Great Race,’ says that he is keen to join the list of Bathurst champions.
”I’m the only one of there four guys yet to win my first Bathurst 1000 but we’ve got the most competitive package ever this year and I know I can count on Richo to do an awesome job as always,” Winterbottom said.
Winterbottom and Richards will compete in a colour scheme resembling the 1977 Allan Moffat/Colin Bond Falcon one-two result.
