Super substitute Fabian Coulthard has taken victory in the opening race of Round 2 of the V8 SuperTourers at Ruapuna today.
Coulthard, driving in the place of injured Greg Murphy, took pole position and backed up his one-lap pace with a dominant win in the 20 lap race, beating home three-time NZV8 champion John McIntyre by over three seconds.
Coulthard was pleased with his win in Murphy’s M3 Racing Commodore VE.
“I did what I had to do,” Coulthard said.
“I took the inside line into Turn 1 and then I could dictate the race. I saw all the boys behind me having a battle and it did make my job very easy. Having said that I’m sure it will be tougher tomorrow.”
Jonny Reid finished right on the tail of McIntyre, who placed ahead of Craig Baird, Ant Pedersen and Kayne Scott.
Andy Booth, Andre Heimgartner, Paul Manuell and Geoff Emery rounded out the top 10.
Leading Australian Dunlop Series competitor had an engine problem with two laps to go, ruling him out.
Two races will be held tomorrow at the Christchurch circuit.
