Repsol Honda Team’s Dani Pedrosa has scorched to the fastest practice time at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix in the United States.
Pedrosa’s superb time in the high 1.37s was sufficient to oust Yamaha Factory Racing’s charging Ben Spies and his team-mate Jorge Lorenzo took third spot.
Lorenzo, however, may have an ace up his sleeve, as he aborted his final hot lap on the final turn, denying a true indication of his outright pace.
Fourth fastest was Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Andrea Dovizioso, who was only marginally behind Lorenzo on board his satellite machine.
Casey Stoner topped the opening morning session, but could only manage fifth best in the second session. Rear suspension issues during the session meant he spent the final five minutes on his number two bike.
British rider Cal Crutchlow took sixth spot ahead of San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Álvaro Bautista, Stefan Bradl and Ducati Team’s duo of Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi.
Héctor Barberá endured a huge highside at the final turn in the morning session. Barberá suffered fractures in his dorsal vertebrae 5, 6 and 8, rendering him unfit for this weekend. He is currently at Indianapolis Methodist Hospital where he will be kept overnight for observation.
