Chaz Davies halted Kawasaki’s stranglehold of the World Superbike Championship as he scored an impressive double victory for Ducati at Laguna Seca.
The Welshman ended a run of 10 consecutive wins for Kawasaki with a dominant performance in the opening race at the Californian circuit.
Davies made no mistakes from pole position to jump into the lead with the Aruba Ducati rider going on to open up a gap of 1.6s after five laps.
The Kawasaki duo of Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes tried to reel in the Ducati but were ultimately left to fight out the remaining podium positions amongst themselves.
Davies went on to take the chequered flag by 1.7s from Sykes and Rea with Davide Giugliano fourth and Jordi Torres fifth.
The second race followed a similar pattern to the first with Davies converting his pole position into the lead.
However, the Ducati rider was forced to work hard for his advantage with Sykes, Rea and Leon Haslam in hot pursuit.
Rain threatened to intervene but it failed to prevent Davies claiming a second win and the first double World Superbike Championship victory for the Ducati Panigale.
The podium mirrored the first race with Sykes just edging Rea to second with Aprilia duo of Torres and Haslam fourth and fifth.
Rea’s championship lead has been cut to 125 points ahead of the Round 10 at Malaysia’s Sepang circuit from July 31- August 2.
