Spectrum Racing Cars has unveiled a new driver development experience for young racing drivers and prospective Formula Ford competitors.

‘Spectrum Racing Cars – Island Formula’ is a two-day driver development program to be held from Wednesday, November 30 to Thursday, December 1 at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Victoria.

Island Formula will allow up to 12 young racing drivers the opportunity to experience over 150 kilometres of testing in a Duratec Formula Ford on one of Australia’s fastest and most exhilarating racing circuits.

In addition to the on-track driving component, Island Formula will see all drivers involved in detailed workshop sessions, with established driver manager and industry figure Chris Jewell in attendance to expose participants to the finer points of making a professional career in motor racing.

Participants will drive current Spectrum Formula Ford chassis prepared by championship-winning teams Borland Racing Developments (BRD) and Synergy Motorsport.

Experienced Formula Ford engineers and mechanics will also offer participants an insight into the technical side of the sport, including car set-up and understanding data acquisition.

Michael Borland, managing director and founder of Spectrum Racing Cars, is delighted to offer young racing drivers the chance to experience a current Spectrum Formula Ford on an international Grand Prix circuit.

“Mark Winterbottom, Jason Bright and Jason Bargwanna all raced Spectrums in the Australian Formula Ford Championship, as did last year‟s champion Chaz Mostert with Synergy Motorsport.

“Island Formula is unique as an all-encompassing driver development experience and the only program of its kind to be held on the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.

“No other program offers drivers the opportunity to experience driving a Formula Ford at a circuit with such a high average lap speed.”
