A fire has seen Glenn Townsend taken to Bathurst Base Hospital following the opening Production Sports practice session in support of this weekend’s Bathurst 6 Hour.
The Lotus Elise caught fire on the front straight, coming to a stop at pit exit where Townsend climbed clear of the burning car.
Initially taken to the circuit medical centre, Townsend was then transferred to hospital.
“The driver has been sent to hospital for precautionary observation,” confirmed officials.
To that point the Lotus driver had set the 21st fastest time, the 42-car field headed by Danny Stutterd in a BMW M6 GT3.
