James Duckworth has extended his Aussie Racing Cars series lead with victories in the final two races of Round 5 at a wet Sydney Motorsport Park.
Race 1 winner Craig Woods led the field away for Race 2 but spun while attempting to defend his position at Turn 2, leaving Duckworth with a sizeable lead over Kel Treseder and Ben Walsh.
The latter two swapped places multiple times in the opening stages before Walsh took second for good.
Walsh had cut Duckworth’s advantage from nearly three seconds to less than 0.7s when the chequered flag flew after five laps.
However, any pass for the lead would have been futile due to a time penalty for jumping the start.
Nevertheless, the Hidden Valley round winner had put enough of a margin on Treseder to hold on to second place.
Duckworth made a clean getaway in the final race of the weekend before the field came under the control of the Safety Car when Glenn McNamara lost control and found the wall exiting Turn 3.
The RDA Brakes-sponsored driver executed a perfect restart as he went on to claim his second race win of the year.
Blake Sciberras battled with his Western Sydney Motorsport team-mate Woods for much of the race before claiming second, having passed Trent Young on the penultimate lap.
Young finished third, ahead of Peter Carr and Kyle Clews, while Harley Haber climbed from 12th on the grid to sixth by the chequered flag.
Treseder, who started off the front row, laboured to 16th with a suspected tailshaft failure.
The Aussie Racing Cars season concludes with two New Zealand rounds, the first at Hampton Downs from October 28-30.
