Peter Rullo suffered a heavy shunt in the closing stages of the opening Dunlop Series practice session

Paul Dumbrell has topped the opening practice session for the MedicOne 250km Dunlop Series race at Bathurst.

Dumbrell, who is doing double duty alongside Jamie Whincup in the Bathurst 1000, sent the #88 Eggleston Motorsport Holden to the top of the charts with a 2:10.38s.

Cameron Waters, in the FPR-prepared Ford, was second quickest, just .19s off Dumbrell’s best.

Ash Walsh (Infant’s Friend Ford), second in the series points behind Dumbrell, was third best ahead of Andre Heimgartner.

Chris Pither, Ant Pedersen, Paul Morris, Tony D’Alberto, Garry Jacobsen and Geoff Emery completed the top 10.

The session saw two red flags the first early on when Aaron Tebb beached his Voigt Contracting Holden at The Chase.

The second stoppage saw practice called four minutes early after a nasty shunt involving Peter Rullo whose Matthew White-prepared Ford also left the track at The Chase.

Rullo escaped injury however the Falcon sustained heavy front-end damage which includes the right-end rail.

It was the only session today for the Dunlop Series which resumes tomorrow with practice and qualifying ahead of Saturday’s 41-lap race.
