Young Melbourne driver Dylan O’Keeffe is ready to take the biggest step of his career in the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia opener at Adelaide’s Clipsal 500 from March 3-6.
Highly regarded, the 18-year-old secures a start in Porsche’s top tier after finishing second in the GT3 Cup Challenge in his rookie season last year.
“For me, the biggest challenge will be learning new circuits. Last week’s Sydney Motorsport Park test was great as we’ll be racing there twice this year,” O’Keeffe said.
“But that’s (SMP) the only circuit from the 2016 Carrera Cup calendar that I’ve raced on before.”
O’Keeffe expects a smooth transition from the second generation 997 series to the current 991 machines in the Carrera Cup.
“It’s still a GT3 Cup car, so many of its characteristics remain the same; you will sit on the left-hand side and it feels very similar,” O’Keeffe outlined.
“There are some differences to get used to though; the handling and balance vary slightly from the 997, and the paddle shift makes a big difference.”
