Bernie Ecclestone’s mother-in-law has been kidnapped in Brazil, according to local reports.
Brazilian magazine Veja claims that the 67-year-old Aparecida Schunck was kidnapped in Interlagos, Sao Paulo on Friday, with the perpetrators demanding a ransom of 120 million Brazilian Reals ($48.7 million AUD).
The figure has been reported as the highest ransom demand in Brazilian history.
Schnuck is the mother of the Formula 1 boss’ third wife Fabiana Flosi, who married Ecclestone in 2012 after the pair met at the Brazilian Grand Prix three years earlier.
The Ecclestone family were the target of kidnappers in 2012 when daughter Tamara Ecclestone faced kidnap threats from a dental technician.
Martin Peckham pleaded guilty to plotting to kidnap Ecclestone’s daughter and was jailed for five years.
