Erebus Motorsport has lodged a formal protest against the ‘no breach of rules’ verdict handed down following an incident in Race 4.

Will Davison’s Mercedes was spun out of third place on the opening lap of the race following contact from James Courtney’s Holden.

V8 Supercars’ Investigating Officer Jason Bargwanna looked into the incident both during and after the race, eventually deciding against taking further action.

Bargwanna labelled the situation a “racing incident”, with the following cars of Chaz Mostert, David Reynolds and Jamie Whincup all having made contact with one another into the corner.

“It was the three or four cars behind that made contact with James that actually turned Will around,” he said.

Erebus owner Betty Klimenko was particularly incensed by the lack of action after seeing Walkinshaw driver Lee Holdsworth receive a drive-through for a similar clash that spun Todd Kelly.

“In my eyes Lee did exactly the same and he got punished for it,” Klimenko said.

“I don’t understand how one gets punished and one doesn’t.

“It’s just one of those moments in motorsport that someone needs to explain it to me and then I’d understand it.”

The protest hearing is set for 8:30am local time tomorrow.
