V8 Supercars Australia has compensated its teams for the extra track time that the cars will complete this weekend at the Nikon SuperGP.

Each car will receive an extra $20,000 per entry, plus six free control Dunlop tyres, to offset the additional 200km that the cars will race.

Teams have also been permitted extra staff for the race above the regular restricted amount.

The increased cash payout means that each car will receive an extra $100 per kilometre to help teams pay for increased brake use, fuel and other ‘wear and tear.’

The Surfers Paradise street circuit is known for its harshness on the machinery, with teams suggesting that brake rotors may need to be changed after each race.

The Bottle-O Racing driver Tony D’Alberto says that the extra money helps the teams, but it doesn’t mean they’ll make money from it.

“Gold Coast is extremely heavy on brakes, so the extra miles really doubles your consumables,” he said.

“This place has always been tough on the cars, so the extra money for the teams helps, but it basically just covers the additional cost.

“You’ve got a lot of unseen costs like engine, gearbox and diff wear and all that sort of stuff – plus a couple of extra bottles of Gatorade! It’s going to get pretty hot out there.”
