The Auto One V8 Utes Series will adopt a four-race format for Round 3 at Hidden Valley Raceway in two weeks time.
The opportunity for the popular class to have the extra track time comes thanks to some freedoms in the event schedule.
It will be the second time the Utes have used a four-race weekend, having completed four races at the Clipsal 500 in March.
Category administrator Craig Denyer said that the extra race is a bonus for his drivers.
“There’s time on the program and the fan base in Darwin like the Utes, so Northern Territory Events was pretty keen to ensure we had four races,” Denyer told Speedcafe.com.
“It’s great for our drivers because it’s a long haul to Darwin and now they’ll get plenty of bang for their buck.
“It’s a nice reward for our competitors. They’ve just come from Perth, and now all the way across to Darwin. Having four races gives the drivers lots of track time.”
Other national-based support classes at Darwin include Australian Formula 3 and Touring Car Masters. All classes, including the V8 Supercars, will be on track from Friday, July 17.
In other V8 Ute race format news, the category had looked into running a special two-driver format at Sandown, but due to time restrictions, event organisers can not fulfil its wish.
