Jenson Button’s celebrated Brawn grand prix car that took the Briton to the F1 driver’s title in 2009 will tackle the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June.

The Mercedes-powered Brawn machines were born when Ross Brawn put together a fresh team from what was left of the troubled Honda operation.

Button duly won six races and the title while another two wins for Rubens Barrichello ensured Brawn also won the Constructor’s title, the first time such an effort had been achieved by a new entity in their first season.

“I’m absolutely delighted that one of only three Brawn BGP 001s built is coming to the Festival of Speed,” Brawn said.

“I’ve had chassis 002, which is the very car Jenson Button used throughout his world title-winning season in 2009, in my collection since that time and can’t wait for it to turn a wheel under its own power for the first time since that incredible season.

“The car was stripped and rebuilt before I took it and has been rarely seen in public since then.

“I can’t think of a better place to show off the car than at Goodwood. The event is remarkable. I’ve been many times and love getting up close to such important competition cars.”

It is expected that Sky F1 commentator and former F1 driver Martin Brundle will take the wheel of the Brawn GP car for runs up the hill at Goodwood.
