The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge will open its 2014 season at Sydney Motorsport Park’s Top Gear Festival next March.
The festival, which debuted this year, sees a mix of traditional racing categories with a variety of performance car stunts, challenges and exhibitions.
The remaining five rounds will run with the Shannons Nationals, returning to the Mallala, Winton, Queensland Raceway and Phillip Island meetings while swapping the previous visit to SMP with an outing at Sandown.
Next season will also be a landmark for the category as the 2011-specification 997 GT3 Cup Cars become eligible inline with the introduction of the 991 into the Carrera Cup.
“We see the introduction of the 2011-spec 911 GT3 Cup car after its three-year stint in Carrera Cup while also bringing GT3 Cup Challenge to the biggest stage it has ever seen – Top Gear Festival Sydney,” said Porsche Cars Australia’s motorsport manager Cameron McConville.
“While this season is set for change, we remain completely focussed on the fundamental elements that maintain the series’ popularity – competitive, cost-effective racing in a fun and friendly environment.
“This has been evident at race tracks since 2008 and will continue to be well into the future.”
The Porsche class has confirmed that it will continue the Jim Richards Endurance Trophy with the endurance championship consisting of three races held at Mallala, Winton and Queensland Raceway.
