Morgan Haber will focus on rebuilding his confidence in Erebus Motorsport’s Mercedes this weekend as he returns to the Australian GT Championship.
The 21-year-old missed the most recent event after destroying the team’s SLS against the unforgiving Turn 8 concrete on debut in the series in Adelaide.
With the car now re-shelled and rebuilt, Haber completed a successful test at Winton last week before jumping back into competition in Townsville.
Erebus general manager Barry Ryan expects to see strong form from the Dunlop Series graduate during the remaining four rounds.
“Morgan’s recent test week at Winton was focussed on high quality and accurate driving, and the sub-lap record pace he displayed demonstrated the skill we know he has,” said Ryan.
“We are focussed on nurturing Morgan and helping him grow in confidence for the rest of 2015.”
Haber says his aim is to post consistent results as he settles back into the car.
“I’ve basically missed two rounds (including Adelaide) now so the championship is out of the question but I want to finish as best I can, and get some strong, consistent results this weekend,” he said.
“We should be poking around the pointy end but we’ll see how the weekend will shake out.
“Townsville can be a pretty daunting place with all the walls, and especially after my crash in Adelaide.
“But I’ve raced at Townsville a few times in the Dunlop Series in the past and I have always enjoyed it.”
Erebus’ second Mercedes entry, shared by Geoff Emery and Max Twigg, sits equal fourth in the championship after two rounds.
Haber, Emery and Twigg have been classified as PRO5, PRO6 and AM1 respectively under the AGTC’s new seeding system.
