Denny Hamlin will start from pole position for the Auto Club 400 at Fontana in California.
The driver of the #11 Toyota will share the front row with his Joe Gibbs Racing team-mate Kyle Busch in the #18 Camry.
Championship leader Greg Biffle in the #16 Ford will start from the outside of the second row alongside veteran Mark Martin, giving Toyota three of the top four spots on the grid.
Australia’s Marcos Ambrose has some work ahead of him qualifying the #9 Ford back in 29th, just one spot behind his team-mate Aric Almirola.
“We just had a bad day,” lamented Ambrose afterward.
“It’s disappointing. Off the truck I thought we were gonna be pretty good, but the track got away from us and we didn’t keep up with our adjustments.”
The race will be run Monday morning Australian time.
