Top Kiwi Hayden Paddon will be elevated into Hyundai’s main squad for Rally Sweden next week following an injury to Dani Sordo.
Spain’s Sordo suffered two broken ribs during a mishap on his mountain bike and will be forced to stand down from driving the #8 i20.
Paddon and co-driver John Kennard’s elevation into the main team beside Thierry Neuville means Kevin Abbring now steps into the Hyundai Mobis World Rally Team’s #20 car.
Hyundai team principal Michel Nandan said: ““First of all we would like to send our best wishes to Dani for a quick recovery and we look forward to seeing him back in the car.
“We have decided that it’s best for Dani to miss Sweden in order for him to recover and to be 100 percent fit for Rally Mexico next month.”
“Hayden will take over in the #8 car in Sweden driving for the Hyundai Shell World Rally Team.”
Sordo is expected to be fully fit for round three of the World Rally Championship in Mexico early next month.
