For the second time in a day, a Toyota 86 Racing Series race has been marred by a major incident.
Calum Jones flipped his Toyota when he hit the rear of Zach Loscialpo’s machine on the run between Turn 10 and Turn 11 during Lap 2 of Race 3.
Jones’ Enzotech entry then ran down the track on its roof before coming to rest against the tyre barriers in the Turn 11 run-off area.
Jones was not seriously hurt in the incident, which saw the field come under Safety Car for four laps.
When the race did restart it was Cameron Hill, who had already taken a dominant win in Race 1, who maintained his lead all the way to the finish.
Hill (#111 Southern Star Truck Centre) built his lead to just under 1.2s in the three laps which remained after the Safety Car period.
Jimmy Vernon finished second to maintain his series lead, having not finished any of the five completed races so far this year outside of the top two.
Tim Brook finished third, with invited drivers Dean Canto eighth and Alex Davison 15th.
Race 2 was abandoned due to a Lap 1 pile-up which blocked the track.
Aaron Seton was slapped with a 50-point penalty for his part in setting off the crash, and sent to the rear of grid for Race 3.
The latter part of the punishment mattered not as Seton did not make the grid for Race 3, but the former is a blow to the series contender.
Round 3 supports the Red Rooster Sydney Super Sprint on August 18-20.
