Team boss Adrian Burgess was at a loss to explain the lack of pace from James Courtney and his Holden Racing Team partner Garth Tander following Friday practice at Ipswich.
Both Courtney and Tander were anchored toward the bottom of the time sheets in Practice 2, which finished in the twilight as temperatures plunged from earlier in the afternoon.
Courtney’s best lap of 1:10.24s saw him in 15th while Tander was 25th in 1:10.93s.
Earlier Courtney and Tander finished 16th and 17th respectively.
The factory Commodores underwent several changes during the session including to the brakes.
“We changed brakes at one point and maybe the changes brought about an anomaly in the car,” Burgess told Speedcafe.com.
“But we don’t really know and we just have to go through it all. Both cars were set up reasonably similar.”
Despite being fitted with a green set of tyres, Courtney failed to make inroads on the timing charts.
“James was going good on the used rubber and we put the greens on and it was just a bit of a messy run,” he said.
“He had traffic and it was a bit of a messy lap but it didn’t feel as balanced on the green as it did on the used.
“We didn’t unlock the lap time when we put the green on.
“The smart people will look at it tonight and we will see what we need to do.
“We will sit down and look through everything tonight. There is another practice tomorrow morning and we’ll go again.”
