Designing the look and feel of the Car of the Future might seem like one of the easiest jobs within the extensive project, but for the man with that responsibility, it was a job taken very seriously.
Queenslander Ben Howe designed the livery of the Holden and Ford prototypes, adding his futuristic spin to the launch of the new generation V8 Supercars.
Howe was at the Sydney event and admitted to feeling a little nervous before the reveal.
“The future was obviously the inspiration,” Howe told Speedcafe.com.
“Mark Skaife contacted me, and asked me to submit some designs. I went back with five or six designs and this was the one they choose.
“I was really nervous about the final look. I hadn't actually seen it before the unveil, so you're never quite sure how things look in design and how they'll turn out for real.
“We did a lot of 3D animation so we could match it very closely from the art to real life.
“Dunlop has invested heavily in the project, so it was important to represent their logos the way they wanted, as well as the other sponsors.
“For me, the most interesting part was thinking about how the car would look while it's moving – how you'd see the pattern while it was doing 250kmh.
“It was a thrill to work with Mark Skaife on this project. He is really passionate about the Car of the Future and it was a thrill to be involved with it.”
