Following his tidy rookie outing at the Indianapolis 500, James Davison is hoping to secure more IndyCar starts in 2014.
Davison plunged into the deep end, driving in the world’s greatest open-wheel oval race, producing a 16th place finish in the Always Evolving KV Racing entry in the 33-car field.
With a limited budget which saw Davison go into the 200-lap race with the least amount of preparation he moved up to 14th place and was on a charge before being checked up late in the race.
The 27-year-old third generation Australian driver is keen to chase more drives in America’s top single-seater class this year.
Fulfilling his life-long goal of competing at the Indy 500, Davison has impressed some of the more influential Indianapolis-based squads with his dedication and hunger.
“I would say there is good potential of it (gaining more drives),” Davison said.
Added to his desire to return to The Brickyard for the 99th running of the 500 next year, Davison wants to complement his drives in The Racer’s Group Aston Martin in the United Sportscar Championship with more IndyCar drives.
The Indy 500 result was Davison’s third appearance in the category after finishing 15th at Mid-Ohio and 18th at Sonoma for Dale Coyne Racing last year.
Davison has lived and breathed IndyCar since moving to the US in 2005 where he has since finished runner-up in the 2009 Indy Lights series.
“As ever it (more Indy drives) comes down to, the sponsorship the teams or you have personally.
“I know Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser are really pleased with the job that I did which is a positive and my sponsor had a fantastic experience.
“I certainly envision us coming back bigger and better next year and hopefully we can run some other Indy races combined with my sports car calendar this year.”
