James Moffat has received a five grid penalty for today's Dick Smith Sandown 500 after a wild qualifying race yesterday.
The Norton driver was involved in two incidents at Turn 1, one with Jason Bright on Lap 1 and the other with Will Davison on Lap 10.
For his actions, Moffat received a five grid penalty, plus a 50 points penalty, suspended until the end of the 2012 season.
Both Bright and Davison were critical of Moffat's on-track driving. Bright suggested that Moffat should start a lap down, while Davison called him a “complete amateur.”
Jack Daniel's Racing's Todd Kelly was also penalised for his part in an incident with Frenchman Alexandre Premat. Kelly received a 25 point penalty.
Shane van Gisbergen and Luke Youlden will start from pole for today's Sandown 500 after winning both of the qualifying races.
