Veteran V8 Supercars driver Jason Bright produced a banzai lap to claim the pole for Race 9 at Pukekohe Park.

In the dying minutes of the 15-minute session Bright responded under enormous pressure and was able to record a 1:02.6524s lap around the 11-turn 2.9km circuit.

Jamie Whincup set the foundation for a second successive pole by recording a 1:02.6858s lap however found himself upstaged by the BOC Commodore driver Bright who continued his charge after winning a heat at Symmons Plains last weekend.

Bright’s team-mate Fabian Coulthard claimed the third fastest time with Whincup in a BJR sandwich.

Garth Tander and James Courtney are next in fourth and fifth with Mark Winterbottom and Scott McLaughlin sixth and seventh.
