Kamui Kobayashi has been confirmed for Caterham F1’s rebirth at this weekend’s season ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The struggling team announced over the weekend that they will attend the final round of the season following a successful crowdfunding effort, which has raised almost £2 Million ($4 Million AUD) in under two weeks.

Since the announcement, the outfit has now moved quickly to confirm that 2014 season regular Kobayashi will fill one of the race seats at Abu Dhabi.

“It hasn’t been an easy last few weeks, so it will be nice to be back to in the car and work together with the Caterham F1 team members,” said Kobayashi.

“I would like to thank the fans for supporting the team like they have.

“This team is working hard and never gives up. We deserve to be racing in Abu Dhabi and I am very glad we can race again thanks to the crowdfunding Project.

“Now it is our turn to show what we can do – we will all try our best during the weekend ahead and hopefully we can end the season with a positive result for the future of this team.”

The team are yet to announce the identity of the second driver although Spaniard Robert Mehri appears to have a valid contact with the team which could see him named for the race.

The Formula Renault 3.5 driver made his grand prix weekend debut with the team this year’s Italian Grand Prix.

Audi FIA WEC driver Andre Lotterer, who was called in to drive for Caterham in his one and only F1 start at Spa in August, has turned down an offer to race.

Marcus Ericsson, the squad’s other regular driver this season, has severed ties with the outfit after completing a move to Sauber for next year.

Caterham are yet to find a new buyer since being plunged into administration which has seen the outfit miss the last two races in America and Brazil.
