Kyle Busch completes Bristol sweep

Kyle Busch scored his second complete sweep at Bristol

Kyle Busch has completed a complete sweep of all three NASCAR series races at Bristol Motor Speedway adding the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup, to victory in the Xfinity Series and Camping World Truck Series.

Busch who snapped a 12-month winless streak at Pocono at the end of July, is now showing ominous form with the Chase for the Cup only weeks away.

Busch led 156 of 500 laps in the Joe Gibbs Racing 18 Toyota to prevail in the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race. His sixth Cup win on the .533-mile track was the 40th of his career in NASCAR’s top division.

Rookie Erik Jones took pole and led a race-high 260 laps but had to settle for second place, 1.422 seconds behind at the finish.

“Great job everybody,” said Busch.

“Erik Jones put up a whale of a fight. I mean I just can’t say enough about that young man. He’s a great kid. I have a lot of fun with him. I have a lot of respect for him. He raced me awesome out there like a great teammate and gave me the room when necessary and raced me hard when necessary. Man, it’s just great to have a guy like that.”

It was a night for Toyota with Denny Hamlin in third ahead of Matt Kenseth. Kurt Busch took fifth in the top-finishing Ford, and Ryan Newman was sixth to wrap up the best effort for a Chevrolet driver.

Series points leader Martin Truex Jr. finished 21st, missing out on a chance to clinch the regular-season championship. Truex made an unscheduled stop on Lap 207 with a loose wheel on his Furniture Row Racing No. 78 Toyota, then was penalised for speeding during that pit-road visit.

In terms of the stage winner; Kyle Busch won Stage 1 and Kenseth Stage 2.
