Jose Maria Lopez will return to Formula E as the replacement for Dragon Racing’s Neel Jani for the rest of the 2017/18 season.
Lopez debuted in Formula E last season, combining his DS Virgin Racing drive with duties for Toyota’s LMP1 program in the World Endurance Championship, which he is expected to retain.
The Argentine fills the vacancy created after Jani walked following just one poor race weekend with Dragon.
“This is an exciting opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to the challenge of Formula E in Season 4 with Dragon,” said Lopez.
“I have good experience from Season 3, and I’m confident that we can achieve strong results as the season progresses.”
The 34-year-old finished ninth in last season’s standings with two podiums after missing the New York double-header due to WEC commitments but was not retained by DS Virgin.
There are no such clashes this season, which resumes with Race 3 in Marrakesh, Morocco next Saturday (January 13 local time).
