Jorge Lorenzo has set the benchmark at the Spanish Gand Prix by topping the timesheets in both opening practice sessions.
At his home event Lorenzo has put faith back in to the factory Yamahas which struggled for pace at the previous round in Austin.
Honda factory rider Dani Pedrosa posted the second quickest time for the day with Cal Crutchlow lapping third fastest on top his Tech 3 Yamaha.
Valentino Rossi continues to make inroads abroad the second factory Yamaha as he set the fourth fastest time with Marc Marquez rounding out the top-5.
Despite breaking his collarbone just two weeks ago in Austin, Karel Abraham rode both sessions and was 22nd quickest in practice.
Australian Bryan Staring set the 21st fastest time on his Go & Fun Honda Gresini CRT bike.
Riders will tackle two more free practice session before tonight’s qualifying effort.
