Marcos Ambrose has ended practice at the top of the time sheets ahead of this Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coke Zero 400 at Daytona.
With rain cancelling the opening practice session, Ambrose worked in tandem with his Richard Petty Motorsports team mate A.J. Allmendinger to lead home a team one-two.
Ambrose’s average speed of 199.411mp/h (320.921km/h) will see him as the last of the qualifiers to hit the track for tomorrow’s two-lap shootout for the coveted pole position.
Apart from being the fastest over a single lap, Ambrose also posted the quickest 10 consecutive laps, with an average speed of 194.917mp/h (313.6885km/h).
“The car feels strong, I’m very thankful to my DeWALT crew for putting together such a solid package,” Ambrose said.
“It was really good to be working with A.J. out there, and it’s great for the team to have both of us at the top of the charts.
“These restrictor plate races are always a bit of a lottery, steering clear of trouble is the key on race day.
“But I’m excited; I can’t wait for qualifying and the race.”
Behind the Petty cars was Kurt Busch (Dodge), Brad Keselowski (Dodge), Mark Martin (Chevrolet), Jeff Gordon (Chevrolet), Clint Bowyer (Chevrolet), Jeff Burton (Chevrolet), Kevin Harvick (Chevrolet) and Paul Menard (Chevrolet).
Qualifying is set to commence tomorrow at 4:10pm USA EDT, (6:10am AEST).
