Marc Marquez has set the fastest lap in MotoGP’s official post-Catalan Grand Prix test.
Marquez clocked a 1:44.071s on the second-last of his 82 laps around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as he and Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa, who ended the day fourth-fastest, worked on set-ups.
The time was faster than Marquez achieved in qualifying two days prior, a session during which he crashed twice, and 0.2s off Pedrosa’s pole time.
Maverick Viñales similarly set his fastest lap on his 80th of 81 laps and held top spot until Marquez went nearly 0.4s quicker.
His Movistar Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi was tenth-fastest as the pair tested two new chassis and the Spaniard also a new fairing.
Tech 3 Yamaha duo Jonas Folger and Johann Zarco finished third- and seventh-fastest respectively, the former also testing a new chassis while as the latter worked on suspension and set-up.
Folger experienced a crash during the day but was unhurt.
Aleix Espargaro was fifth on the timesheets having retired from the grand prix one day earlier with a mechanical problem, while Gresini Aprilia team-mate Sam Lowes finished 15th.
Cal Crutchlow crashed once but was still the first of the satellite riders in sixth on his LCR Honda, though he did sample a Repsol Honda fairing during the day.
Jack Miller was 12th on his Marc VDS Honda, the Australian testing front suspension.
Alex Rins returned after fracturing his left wrist and forearms during practice for the Grand Prix of The Americas, having missed that race and the next four completely.
The Spaniard was 17th-fastest in the 18-bike field, with Suzuki Ecstar team-mates Andrea Iannone 14th and Sylvain Guintoli 18th.
Iannone and Guintoli had been an uncompetitive 16th and 17th in the Catalan Grand Prix.
A number of teams will stay at Barcelona for private test days before Round 8 of the world championship in The Netherlands (June 23-25).
Movistar Yamaha, Suzuki Ecstar, and Red Bull KTM will run on Tuesday, with the latter backing up on Wednesday.
