Miedecke Stone Motorsport hopes to field its newly acquired Aston Martin Vantage GT4 in Australian GT rounds next year following its Bathurst 12 Hour debut.

The Aston Martin Vantage is the latest GT4 machine set for Australian competition following confirmation that Tekno Autosport will soon take delivery of a McLaren 570S GT4.

The Vantage GT4, purchased by a friend of Andrew Miedecke, enjoyed a maiden outing with its owner at Queensland Raceway last week.

Confirmed to compete in Class C (GT4) at February’s Bathurst 12 Hour alongside two Miedecke Stone Motorsport Vantage GT3s, the squad is keen to run the car for customers in the Australian GT Championship in 2017.

The team also intends to acquire a GT4 Aston of its own in the near future.

The GT4 division is enjoying rapid growth in Europe as teams take advantage of new cars with significantly less price tags compered to their GT3 counterparts.

While GT4 is in its infancy in Australia, Miedecke sees the benefits of the category.

“There are a quite a few drivers that would like to do something in the GT4,” Miedecke told Speedcafe.com.

“The class looks like it is going to grow as a second tier category so we have decided to go for it.

“The announcement of other manufacturers getting involved piqued my interest and friend of mine has bought one and we are probably going to end up with our own chassis.

“We will see how it fits into the GT category but the management of Australian GT has said there is a place for GT4 so I think there is an opportunity there.”
