Jack Miller has been forced to withdraw from MotoGP’s Grand Prix of the Americas after sustaining a foot injury.

X-rays have revealed that the Australian rider has broken the fifth metatarsal in his right foot following a crash in Friday’s opening practice.

Miller received a course of physiotherapy and a pain killing injection before the Marc VDS Honda team elected to withdraw its rider from the event.

The Queenslander did not take part in qualifying after completing just three laps in Free Practice 4.

“This is a really physically demanding track and with every lap the pain just got worse so in the interests of safety it is better to give this race a miss,” said Miller.

“We tried all the options with physiotherapy and a pain killing injection for FP4 but it didn’t work.

“I’m sorry for the team but this is racing and now I just want to be fit for the next race in Jerez.

“It’s unlucky but I’ve learnt a lesson from pushing too hard on a cold tyre in practice.”

Miller believes that the pain is related to the broken leg which he suffered after a motocross crash during pre-season training in January.

“It’s not where I’ve broken the foot that’s hurting, it’s more where I’ve had the previous break and I’ve got the plates in,” he added.

“It could have moved a little screw or something like that because it’s all swollen up so we’ll take this weekend off and just keep working together with the clinic while we’re here this weekend and try to be fit for Jerez.”

The Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez is scheduled from April 22-24.
