Australian Formula 3 driver Nathan Morcom will move to Europe after confirming a deal with top outfit Farnbacher Racing in the German ADAC GT Masters.
The 21-year-old from New South Wales will drive a Porsche GT3R alongside United Sportscar Championship racer Mario Farnbacher, brother of team boss Dominik Farnbacher in the 8-round championship.
As a result of the deal, Morcom, who finished sixth overall in the Australian Formula 3 Championship last season, will move to Ansbach, Germany and live with the Farnbacher Racing team boss.
The car guided Christina Nielsen, daughter of Danish sportscar ace Lars Erik Nielsen, to the Amateur class ADAC GT Masters title last season. The late Sean Edwards and Allan Simonsen have both driven the machine.
The ADAC GT Masters is Germany’s premier GT series, which visits the nation’s top circuits, including Nurburgring, Hockenheim and Lausitzring, alongside trips to Austria’s Red Bull Ring, Slovakia’s Slovakiaring and Zandvoort in The Netherlands.
This will be his first experience of top flight GT racing having predominantly focussed on a career in single seaters, following campaigns in America’s USF2000 and the Australian Formula Ford Championship.
However, the young Australian has been heading towards a move to GT racing after testing a British GT Triple Eight Race Engineering run BMW Z4 at Donington Park last season.
“I think the guy will fit in well and will give a good account of himself over there,” Jon Hart, who was the architect of the deal and who has entered into a 20-year management agreement with the driver.
Morcom will make his ADAC GT Masters debut at the opening round held at Oschersleben on April 25-27.
